Choice
I was recently in a book shop and came across a book about choice. I've since ordered it from amazon and can't wait to get stuck into it.
It got me thinking a lot about choice and how choices can actually worsen our lives rather than free us — which is what we are told they do.
Choosing between butter brands, or car brands seem pretty harmless, but what are the repercussions of having something disastrous happen and being able to trace it back to a choice we made.
ie. We get into a car crash and are physically and mentally injured. Do we start to blame ourselves for buying that car and not a car with a stronger frame.
I started to think deeper and a little more religiously. There are still several religions that encourage and practice arranged marriages. Imagine if your spouse was chosen for you, yes it takes away your free will and choice, but if you are stuck in a bad marriage it was never your fault because you never made the choice.
It seems that choices are liberating on one had but condemning on the other and could possibly lead to depression and self loathing.
I can't wait for the book to arrive to delve more into the thoughts of choices.
